Jody Tiflin is given a red pony as a present from his father, Carl Tiflin. He names it Gabilan, and trains it. Just before Jody is able to ride it, the ranch hand, Billy Buck, accidentally leaves the hoarse out in a rainstorm and it gets very sick and dies. Jody is miserable, but a stranger comes to the ranch and stays there then leaves taking one of Carl Tiflin's horses. Then his father says that if we can breed this horse Nellie, you can raise the colt, then his grandfather comes to visit. This book was decent.
