What if you snuck out to have a secret sleepover with your friends at your grandma's empty house, but then your friends couldn't make it and you stayed there anyway? And what if during the night of this secret sleepover, the entire town/state was evacuated and you were left behind? Your mom thinks you're with your dad, your dad thinks you're with your mom, but really, you're all alone? This is the dilemma faced by Maddie, the main character, in Alone. She finds abandoned cell phones, clothes, pets, and more that the residents of her town in Colorado had to leave behind when whatever "imminent threat" came about that caused them all to be evacuated. Maddie adopts her neighbor's Rottweiler for company and together they try to survive. Maddie scavenges nearby houses and businesses for food, water, and survival supplies. But time keeps passing and no one is coming to rescue her! How will she survive alone and how long it be before someone realizes she was left behind?
