Taming the Star Runner is a great book about a teenage boy named Travis. Travis is a good, smart kid from the city and loves to write and tell stories. He is really good at it too. Travis loves writing so much that he wrote a story and secretly sent it to a publisher. Travis lives with his mom and evil stepdad, Stan. Travis and Stan hate each other. Stan is always doing things that drive Travis crazy, then one day, Stan takes it too far. Travis snaps and hits Stan over the head with a fireplace tool. Travis is sent to jail for a little while. After he gets out, Travis is sent to live with his Uncle Ken on his ranch outside of Tulsa, OK. At first, Travis struggles to adjust. Then, when he meets Casey and her crazy horse the Star Runner, Travis feels better about moving. When Travis gets a letter from the publisher, you won't believe what it says! This book has excitement, suspense, romance, country people, and horses. This book was great and I really, really enjoyed it. I would get confused sometimes when they were talking about horses, horse equipment, horse terms, and horses competitions because I don't really know a whole lot about that stuff, but I still enjoyed it. I'd give this book 5/5 stars.
