Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March are poor, but living a happy life. There dad is in the army, and they befriend there rich neighbor's grandson, Laurie, who is fun and playful. Meg gets married to Laurie's tutor, John Brooke. Beth gets sick with scarlet fever and does not recover fully. She knows she is dying, and when she does, everyone is devastated at her loss. Amy goes on a trip to Europe with Aunt March and falls in love with Laurie. A professor that Jo had made friends with in New York shows up at the March's house, and Jo falls in love with him. They are married and open a school for boys and have two of their own. I liked this book.
