Della and her older sister, Suki,'s mom goes insane and blows up a hotel room so they go to live with Clifton, one of their moms former boyfriends. Clifton is mean, and they have to live with them for a few years. When Suki is gone and Clifton tries to strangle Della, Suki comes home and takes a picture and calls the police. Clifton is arrested and Suki and Della go into foster care and live with a nice woman named Francine. Suki gets a job, and Della makes a friend named Nevaeh. Suki hurts herself with a knife and goes to a psychiatric hospital. Della learns that Clifton beat her for years. Della says that Clifton should go to prison longer and Della says that she will testify at Clifton's trial. This book was good and well written, though I don't know if I would read it again because it is hard to read because of the sad things in the book.
