Sarah Crew has just gotten off a boat from India and is now in London. She and her father go to a boarding school called, Miss Minchin: Select Seminary for Young Ladies, where Sarah will be staying while her father goes back to India. She finds a doll named Emily, and makes friends with Ermengarde and Lottie at the school. Her father dies, and a friend ran off with his fortune leaving Sarah penniless, and a beggar. She is forced to work with the other servent Becky, who becomes good friends with Sarah, and treated terribly. Eventually, the Indian gentleman next door finds out that Sarah is the long lost daughter of Captain Crew, Sarah's father, and brings her and Becky to live with him. I liked this book.
