Shayla is in seventh grade and has two best friends who call themselves the United Nations, because of their different ethnic backgrounds. Shayla joins the track team and has a crush on the kid that likes one of her friends. After accidentally getting kissed by a guy who was dared to by her other best friend, Shayla goes to a black lives matter riot with her family and starts wearing a black arm band to commemorate the black people that were killed by police officers. She hands arm bands to her friends and soon everyone at school is wearing them. Shayla continues to wear and pass the out the bands even after the principle tells her not to. This was well written and fun, but I don't think I would read it again. Being in seventh grade myself, this book is way to dramatic. At least, for me.
