She's lucky, though. Her childhood friend, Ben, drives her home before she passes out at the party. She doesn't remember much from that night, but she remembers Ben taking care of her. She finds out a few days later that four of the school's star basketball players are being charged with rape. Kate finds out there is a video of an assault that happened on a girl at that party. The school isn't even divided on the issue - they believe the girl is a slut and whatever happened was her fault. They won't let themselves believe that their star basketball players could possibly have assaulted her. But Kate isn't ready to let it go. She wants to see the video and see what happened for herself. But what she sees will rock her own world too. This novel was really poignant about how sexual assault cases seem to play out in reality. The girl was dressed provocatively or made out with lots of boys, so she therefore brought this on herself. But for Kate, she has to grapple with all of the witnesses who did nothing, and all of the politics behind small town sports. This one made my blood boil, but only because it is so true to life.
