This award-winning graphic novel deserves all its accolades. Not only are the illustrations incredible, but the story is spot on. Jordan is one of a handful of kids of color who attend a private school in New York. He has to deal with students and teachers who can’t seem to get his name right, tons of homework, and being labeled a “financial aid” kid. I loved that Jordan wasn’t the stereotypical African-American protagonist, which author Jerry Craft hits on in the story. He’s smart, creative, not great at sports, social, and still a typical middle schooler trying to fit in. Recommended!
