Review: "Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus," by Dusti Bowling

Aven Green is a rock star soccer player, has the wit of a much older person, writes a fun blog, and is mostly fearless. Did I mention she was born without arms? That’s what most people think of when they see Aven. They don’t want to get to know the girl because of her armless existence. But not Conner. He doesn’t have friends, really, because he has Tourette’s Syndrome and one of his tics includes barking loudly. When Aven moves to Arizona to help her family run a worn-down amusement park, she and Conner become friends and help each other face their fears. Together they also tackle the mysteries of Stagecoach Pass, like who is the owner and why aren’t they around anymore? Who is the girl in the pictures who looks a lot like Aven? I enjoyed this quick read and getting to know Aven. She’s a spitfire!
