Review: "Brown Girl Dreaming," by Jacqueline Woodson

Jackie Woodson was born in Ohio but soon moved to live with her grandparents in South Carolina. Her childhood was filled with family, ribbons in her hair, and writing in her notebook. She struggled with reading but with writing, she found her voice. I loved listening to the author read her memoir in verse. What a fascinating beginning this brilliant author had. I didn’t know much about the author’s life and she used her talent to make her memoir accessible to young readers.
