American Max and his family have moved to Brussels, Belgium for a year. Max is not happy that not only will he be repeating sixth grade, but he will also be in a school that speaks only French! Miserable, Max longs to be back home with his friends and video games. Meanwhile, Ahmed, an illegal immigrant who fled war in Syria, has lost all of his family members. He desperately trusts a smuggler, but is quickly terrified when the smuggler threatens to turn him in if he doesn’t pay more. Ahmed escapes the car and hides in the cellar of an unlocked house - Max’s house. After months in hiding, Max finally discovers Ahmed, and after hearing his story, he vows to help him. What lengths will he go to in order to protect Ahmed?
