Front Desk

I listened to this audiobook on my drive from OKC to Galveston and it kept me interested the entire time. Ten-year-old Mia and her parents have taken jobs at a small motel in Anaheim. As Chinese immigrants, their choice of jobs is pretty limited. Their boss isn’t a nice man and constantly cheats them out of their hard-earned money. Mia has hopes and dreams of climbing out of poverty and getting somewhere in life. Her help at the front desk really does get her parents through some rough times. When an essay contest comes about where the winner will receive their very own motel in Vermont to manage, Mia is determined to win and get her family on a path to financial freedom.
