I listened to the audiobook of this with the author narrating, and it was so cool to hear him tell his own story. Robert Hoge was born with a severe facial tumor that caused his eyes to be on either side of his head and to not have a nose at all. His legs were also severely deformed. He's had to go through so many surgeries that before he ever went to school, he spent so much time in the hospital that it was his home away from home. Robert tells little snippets of his life up through age 14, including his top ten list of the worst nicknames the other kids gave him, bullying from teachers and students due to his disability, finding a sport that he can do, and growing up in Australia. I think this non-fiction would be a great choice for kids who need to see things from the perspective of someone who comes out on top after life keeps throwing him curveballs.
