Eleven-year-old Alex Petroski is obsessed with space. He's even copying the golden record that was sent into space in the 1970s by using a golden iPod to record things on Earth that he wants to send into space for the aliens to use to learn about Earthlings. He is a pretty mature 11-year-old who has booked his own trip from Colorado to New Mexico for an amateur rocket building contest. He meets quite the cast of characters on his trip, including Zed, a meditating man who has taken a vow of silence and Steve, Zed's roommate who is an entrepreneur. When Alex's rocket launch doesn't go quite the way he planned, Steve and Zed take him to Las Vegas to meet what could be his dad. Alex has been told his dad died when he was little, but ancestry.com told him there was a man in Vegas with his dad's name and birthday. Could this "maybe dad" really be Alex's dad? What else will he find on this road trip adventure with two strangers? I loved this sweet book. Alex is so endearing and listening to it as an audiobook was a great experience.
