This was an excellent audio book narrated by Anika Noni Rose. I listened to it in its entirety on my road trip from OKC to Galveston. The story tells of a group of people who can paint images that allow their ancestral spirits to interact with the world. They're called Shadowshapers. Brooklyn teen Sierra Santiago is working on her own mural when she notices an adjacent mural has faded and seems to have a newly painted tear streaking down one of the faces, and when some of the aging men in her community start to disappear or be killed, she learns that she is a Shadowshaper like them. She also learns that someone is trying to steal the magic of the Shadowshapers and it's up to her to dig into the past and understand what her ancestors were up to in order to stop the Shadowshapers from becoming extinct.
