Rump

Imagine having a name like Rump in a time where your name is your destiny! What kind of destiny could poor Rump have? He knows Rump is not his whole name, but his mother died as she was saying his name aloud for the first time, so no one ever knew his full name. Rump lives with his grandmother in a town dependent on mining gold in order to get rations to feed the family. Pixies hang around in attraction to gold, but gold is not in abundance in Rump's town. When the pixies start stalking him and bothering him, Rump discovers he has a hidden talent that his mother shared too - he can spin straw into gold! Unfortunately, there's no way to explain the gold to the greedy miller in order to get his rations, but the miller knows more about Rump and his mother than he lets on. Soon, the king comes to town in search of where the gold came from, and the miller's daughter is snatched up by the king when he thinks she's the one who can spin straw into gold. Rump knows he needs to help her, but how can he do that and save himself too? This story is so cute and really gives a great alternative history to how Rumpelstiltskin came to be in his legendary tale.
