Puddin'

I did enjoy this companion novel to Dumplin', but for some reason, it didn't resonate with me as much as Dumplin' did. This one alternates chapters between the supremely likable Millie and the supremely unlikable Callie from the first book. Millie is facing many of the challenges Will faced in Dumplin'. She is in a war with her mother who wants her to lose weight. She has a first romance. She wants to fulfill her dreams by breaking away from her small town. Callie, on the other hand, is in a tailspin and has lost everything. She and her dance team trash out the gym where Millie works, but she's the only one caught, so she loses her spot on the dance team. She loses her phone and her social life, and is forced to come to terms with what's important to her. All in all, this is a good read, but I wasn't enthralled or laughing out loud as much as Dumplin'.

Mrs. Denney's Rating: **1/2
