Accident Season

I finished this book two days ago and I still don't think I'm ready to write it up. It has quite an interesting premise: Every year, during the month of October, a family seems to be cursed. Bumps and bruises abound, broken bones, and near deaths occur. Sometimes the accidents are fatal. And when November 1 rolls around, things go back to normal. But what IS normal for this family? Set in Ireland, our narrator is 17-year-old Cara and she's beginning to uncover the secrets behind the origins of the accident season. There's a side story where Cara and her ex-stepbrother, Sam, are growing into an uncomfortable-to-read-about romance (because GROSS), and they're investigating the disappearance of a classmate, Elsie. As they get closer and closer to the truth behind the accident season, the author throws in more twists and turns than the craziest roller coaster around. I rated this book with 2 stars because it kept me guessing most of the way, but not in a good way. I wanted some AHA moments, but I didn't like being in the dark most of the book. The writing style is not for everyone and there were definitely parts that were indistinguishable from fantasy or reality. I listened to the audio version of this and really think the narrator's accent brought me closer to the characters than I would have been just reading it. In fact, I probably wouldn't have finished this one if I hadn't been listening to it.
