Eragon is a fantasy novel that includes mythical creatures like dragons, elves, and wizards. The first book of the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, this story is about an orphan named Eragon who finds a mysterious stone in the part of the mountains called the Spine. This stone turns out to be a dragon egg! Eragon decides to keep the dragon after the egg hatches and names her Saphira. Eragon lived in the town of Carvahall his whole life until his uncle Garrow is murdered by creatures called the Ra’zac. He decided to get revenge on the Ra’zac by teaming up with his mentor, Brom, and Saphira to defeat them. Eragon is given a sword called Zar’roc and uses it to try and kill the Ra’zac, but before he can kill them, Brom is killed by one of the Ra’zac knives. Eragon then meets Murtagh, the son of Morzan. When Eragon gets captured by monster creatures called the Urgals, he is saved by Murtagh and an elf named Arya. Eragon and Murtagh go to a dwarf city with Urgals not far behind them. With Saphira and Arya on their side, they fight the Urgals and Eragon wins the war by killing their leader, Durza.
I loved this book and was hooked from the first chapter. All of the details bring the story to life. I am not surprised that over 35 million copies have been sold!
