Tasting the sky is a memoir by Ibtisam Barakat. She starts the book by introducing the Middle East Conflict. She was only three years old when the war broke between Israel and Palestine. Ibtisam’s family left their house to find shelter. That was when she was separated from her family, but found them again at the camp. The book goes on to talk about Ibtisam’s family living in different shelters, the troubles she had to face as a little girl, and problems her brothers faced at shelters and schools. She also focused on the happy times she had with her brothers, and shares her beautiful memories. She was a really good student and loved reading and writing. She used reading and writing as hobbies to forget about war. She really thinks that if people do not treat each other based on their religion and nationality, they can get along as human beings. The book is easy to read and understand. I did not like it too much. It is a good recommendation for anybody who likes to read stories about different cultures.
