When Clay writes "Magic Sucks" in a journal and then it suddenly appears as giant graffiti inside his school, he doesn't know what to think. He's so mad at his older brother and magician, Max Earnest, for taking off without even saying goodbye, and that's why he's mad at magic in general. In order to not be kicked out of school, Clay is sent to Earth Ranch, a camp for juvenile delinquents. Clay knows something isn't quite right at Earth Ranch, but he can't put his finger on it. He thinks there is a ghost in the library on the island, there seems to be a teepee that floats and moves wherever it wants, and his best friend turns out to be a llama named Como Se Llama. But figuring out the mystery of Earth Ranch is only the beginning of Clay's journey as he learns that maybe magic doesn't suck after all.
