Review: "There Will Be Bears," by Ryan Gebhart

While this book does throw in some stereotypical middle grade problems - first crush, best friends who grow estranged, sibling rivalry- it has heart. Tyson has a sweet, healthy relationship with his aging grandfather. Rugged Gramps has promised Tyson he will take him to hunt elk in the Grand Tetons, but Gramps is sick with kidney failure and it looks like the trip won't happen. But Tyson is determined to take the trip despite a string of bear attacks and despite Gramps's failing health. My only qualm was the super graphic description of what it takes to dress an animal once it is killed. I'm not a hunter and never plan to be a hunter, so that was a bit much for my taste.
