Review: "Love and Other Foreign Words," by Erin McCahan

Centering around fifteen-year-old genius Josie and her quest to define and understand love, the book is fairly predictable. Josie is a gutsy, if not off-putting, protagonist who uses her genius IQ to attempt to sabotage her older sister's engagement. She has her own romantic dramas as well, including the typical crush on an older guy and the equally typical best friend becomes boyfriend scenario. I didn't find anything special in this one. But, I'm not the intended audience. I read this because it is on our state's Sequoyah List for middle grades- even though it is aimed at high schoolers, not 6th-8th graders!
