Review: "The Cemetery Boys," by Heather Brewer

This book reminded me of the movie for The Lost Boys. A new kid moves to town and immediately gets pulled in by the hot goth chick who seemingly doesn't belong in the small town, and her twin brother and his friends, who are the stereotypical bad boys. They sneak into the movie theater after hours, drink a lot of liquor, and obsess about the town's legendary Winged Ones. The Winged Ones supposedly will let the town have a period of happy times as long as the locals give them a human sacrifice once in a while. They aren't vampires, but they might as well be for the horror they inflict on people. This was my first Heather Brewer/Zac Brewer read. I saw her a few years back and loved her story of being an outsider in her small town, and I recently learned of her quest to fully transition from female to male. I love that there is a teen author who is so open with her personal life because some teens will really need to hear her story.
Mrs. Denney's Rating: **1/2
